Ordered my rehearsal dinner dress!

February 22, 2008

So I stopped by Elite Elegant Events in Urbana again to pick up the swatch that they had ordered for the bm’s dresses.  I took the opportunity to look at dresses for my rehearsal dinner.  Again I had a wonderful experience at the shop!  Marie, the owner began to pull several different options of the tea length dresses that I requested.  All together we had about ten different options with a variety of styles, fabrics and colors.  Some were fabulous and others were just not flattering on my frame.  Marie was great about helping me in and out of all the dresses and helping me decide.  Of course, after trying on all of the dresses I ended up going with the first one that I had put on.  It’s a beautiful satin dress with a chiffon overlay and I am ordering it in black with a white sash.  Its cute, fun, flirty and perfect for our event!  It has been ordered and will come in April.  I can’t wait.  Another wonderful shopping experience at Elite Elegant Events.  Highly recommended!

Found BM dresses!

February 15, 2008

So check another thing off my list….got the bridesmaid dresses and they are beautiful!  We initially stopped by a local Frederick dress shop to find it closed when their hours stated that they were supposed to be open.  That was a huge disappointment.  Since my mom, my moh and I were already together, we decided to visit a new dress shop we had read about in the fnp that recently opened in Urbana.

We took the 10 min drive up to the Villages of Urbana to a very cute new bridal events shop called Elite Elegant Events.  When we walked in I immediately love the décor…chocolate brown with beautiful chandeliers hanging from the ceilings.  Nice place!  I was greeted by the owner, Marie and a young sales associate who were eager to help us find exactly what we were looking for.  I described what I had in mind…strapless, long, elegant and formal.  Marie began pulling options from the racks while my event information was taken along with all the names of the girls who were in my bridal party.  All of the dresses were beautiful which made the decision very tough.

We decided on a strapless A-line gown with a sash that drapes down the back of the skirt in burgundy.  Gorgeous!  We couldn’t have been happier.  Once the decision was made I realized that we hadn’t looked at price tags the whole time we were shopping.  Yikes!!  My moh and I said, “Oh no, this is probably going to be the most expensive one!”  So I pulled out the tag that was tucked into the back of the dress she was wearing and read $138!!  We were ecstatic!  What a deal and on a gorgeous gown.

We proceeded up to the register where Marie began an electronic account for us under my name with all of the dress info and all of the bm’s names.  Now all they have to do is go in and get their measurements taken.  Once all of the girls are fitted, the dresses will be ordered and should come in between 6-8 weeks.  Plenty of time with my wedding still 6 ½ months away.  We were even happier when Marie offered us a 10% discount if the dress is paid in full, bringing the total with tax to $131.  Never would I have imagined that the ideal dress would be found for such a reasonable cost.

Marie and her staff were great to work with.  Her shop was beautifully decorated and the selection was wonderful.  Not only do they carry bms dresses, but also wedding gowns, mob dresses, flower girl dresses, ring bearer suits and all the accessories you need to go with your perfect wedding outfit.  We had a fun girl’s night out and walked out finding the perfect dress for my bms thanks to Elite Elegant Events.

Searching for a DJ and a cake

February 1, 2008

I am currently looking to book a DJ and finding someone to do our cake.  Finding a DJ is proving to be much harder then some of the other vendors.  With photographers and videographers, you just look at their work and their style and decide if they are right for you.  When searching for DJs they have nothing for you to see.  You can’t look at their professional website and know if they are going to provide music that keeps people on the dance floor or not.  I have begun to rely mostly on recommendations.  I love chatting on local bridal forums with current and past brides to get ideas.  People give their honest opinions on whether or not they liked their vendors since it is anonymous.  I have posted several comments requesting DJ suggestions and have been searching that way.  I have just booked three appointments within the next couple weeks and hope to find one soon.  We are now a little over seven months out from my date and some DJs have already turned me away due to lack of availability.  I’ll keep you posted on the search.

Also, in the next few weeks we will be visiting four different bakeries in the local area for our cake tastings!  So exciting!!  This has to be the best part about getting married…being able to sample tons of different desserts for free!  One thing I hadn’t thought of prior to scheduling the appointments is what flavors I wanted to try.  Most bakers told me that they make cupcakes or mini cakes and needed us to narrow it down to 3-6 flavors.  This is sooo hard when you have tons of cake, filling and frosting choices.  Almost overwhelming!  I laughed when my fiancé said, “I thought this was a tasting?  I want to taste them all.  I don’t know which ones to pick!”  Spoken like a typical boy.  I can’t wait to taste all the amazing cakes they have to offer.  Once we decide I’ll make sure to share baker and cake choices.
