Groom picked tuxes with his Best Man

July 31, 2008

A classic black Ralph Lauren tux was chosen for the groom, the groomsman and the fathers.  All will wear white shirts and matching black vests.  My groom will be wearing a black straight tie to complete his ensemble.  The groomsmen will be wearing a burgundy straight tie to match the bridesmaid’s dresses.  Both of our fathers will be wearing a black bow tie.  My FI’s nephew, our ring bearer will be in classic tails with a white vest, white shirt and white bow tie.  He is going to look so cute!  The tuxes were rented from Men’s Wearhouse in Frederick, MD.  The customer service there was wonderful!

I must give credit to my FI who has been really on top of his “wedding to-do list” now that it is getting closer to the wedding.  I guess he realizes that I need help and its crunch time!  Thanks FI! :)

My FI bought my wedding band!

July 31, 2008

It’s a 14kt white gold band with 9 round channel set diamonds and a little less then 0.5kt total diamond weight.  I love it!  He did a good job.  He wanted to choose a ring that complimented my engagement ring perfectly.  It looks like they were bought as a set.  I’m looking forward to the day that he can slip it on my finger! Less then 5 weeks and counting!!

Wedding menu decided

July 23, 2008

We have worked with the chef at the Antrim 1844, Michael Gettier on designing our wedding menu.  Everything the man touches is amazing!  He is a French trained chef who also runs the Smokehouse restaurant at the Antrim.  We have decided on the following:

Salad:
Baby spinach salad with mandarin oranges, red onion, toasted almonds with a balsamic vinaigrette dressing

Entree:
Grilled and sliced sirloin steak
Bacon wrapped crab stuffed jumbo shrimp

Sides:
Scalloped potatoes
French green beans

We really wanted to do something different.  Almost every one of the 30 or so weddings we have been to since we have gotten out of college has served filet mignon and a crab cake.  Don’t get me wrong, those are two of my favorite things to eat!  We just wanted to do something different, while still incorporating the surf and turf aspect of the meal.  I think it will be wonderful!

Appointment with wedding coordinator

July 22, 2008

We have an appointment with our wedding coordinator at the Antrim 1844 this Saturday.  We will be going over every detail of the wedding from the menu, to the time line, to the decorations.  I am very excited to go up to the venue again.  I can’t believe how close our big day is getting.  Less then 6 weeks to go!

Thank yous mailed!

July 22, 2008

I finally got around to finishing up writing all the thank you notes for the gifts I received from my bridal shower.  I wanted to do something a little different, so I purchased blank cards and envelopes and hand stamped each one.  I was very happy with the way they turned out.  I thought it was cute that my FI was impressed with my craftiness.  One more thing off the to-do list!

What should you wear? Wedding Attire for Wedding Guests

July 17, 2008

With having a formal event at the Antrim 1844, we decided to make the dress code Black Tie Optional.  I didn’t realize that so many people would have questions as to what that entailed and what they should wear.

I have taken a few excerpts from an article on The Knot (www.theknot.com) called “Wedding Guest Attire Cheat Sheet” to clarify any confusions and help you out when planning your outfit for future events.  Hope this helps!

White Tie:
This is the most formal of all wedding dress codes (think state dinners and the Oscars).
He should wear: A tuxedo, a long black jacket with tails, a white pique vest, and a bow tie. Black, formal shoes and even white gloves for dancing are appropriate.
She should wear: A formal, full-length ball gown in a neutral color like dark brown or black. Glamorous makeup and dramatic jewelry and hair are appropriate.

Black Tie:
This is the next most formal wedding dress code and usually means the wedding is an evening affair.
He should wear: A tuxedo. A black bow tie, cummerbund, and patent leather shoes are also suggested.
She should wear: A chic cocktail dress or a long evening gown in a dark, neutral color like brown or black. The bride, wedding party, or friends can help answer questions about the appropriate dress length.

Formal or Black Tie Optional: (Which is what we are doing)
The wording here suggests something slightly less formal than black tie. This means that a tuxedo isn’t required but the event is still formal enough for one to be appropriate.
He should wear: A tuxedo or a formal dark suit and tie.
She should wear: A long dress, a dressy suit, or a formal cocktail-length dress in a dark, neutral tone like brown, gray, or black.

Beach Formal:
This suggests an elegant beach wedding — so dress to impress, but also dress for the elements (sun, sand, and water). Anything you’d wear to a nice restaurant on a summer day is appropriate.
He should wear: A summer suit with a linen shirt (no ties required), linen pants or khakis, and sandals.
She should wear: A formal summer sundress at tea- or knee-length with flat sandals. Makeup and hair can be natural and everyday.

Semi formal or Dressy Casual:
Depending on the time of the event, you’ll want to dress somewhere between formal and casual. Wear darker, more formal hues for an evening fete; opt for light colors and fabrics for a daytime wedding.
He should wear: A suit and tie, dark or light depending on the season and time of day.
She should wear: A cocktail dress or a dressy skirt and top.

Casual:
Generally, casual means anything goes. That said, jeans, shorts, and tank tops are probably not appropriate unless they’re specifically noted as acceptable. For the purposes of wedding wear, assume business casual to be on the safe side.
He should wear: Dress pants with a button-down shirt or polo.
She should wear: A summer sundress or a skirt or pants with a nice blouse. Makeup and hair can be natural and everyday.

2nd Dress Fitting tonight

July 17, 2008

I will be going for my second dress fitting tonight.  The length is suppose to be accurate now and the bustle is suppose to be done.  I can’t wait to try it on.  I love putting on my dress.  Any opportunity I get to prance around in it in front of a mirror I take it!  My mom and sis were out of town when I went for my first fitting, so they are excited to come along and see the progress that has been made.  The only thing I am not looking forward to is being put into a big dress on a 90 degree day in a bridal shop with no air conditioning.  Other then that….super excited! :)

Back from the beach!

July 17, 2008

Well my bachelorette party was a success.  It was a great weekend with all my best girlfriends at the beach.  We got a little crazy and had a great time!  I think I’m going to pay for it now though.  I’m starting to feel sick…boo!  I guess that’s what happens when you crush your immune system with too much partying.  But it was so worth it!  We went to the beach, ate at some great restaurants and hop around each night to several Ocean City hot spots.  Seacrets was my favorite!  We made sure that on my night out we were sure to get noticed.  Each of the 14girls wore pink tops and big, pink feathered boas.  We were a site walking down the street, leaving a trail of pink feathers wherever we went.  I couldn’t have asked for a better bachelorette weekend.  It was a wonderful trip!

Our guest book is here!

July 10, 2008

We finally decided on ordering a guest book for the wedding from www.snapfish.com that I created using our engagement pictures.  It just came in the mail and it looks lovely.  I chose one with a black, leather cover and all the pages inside have black or white backgrounds.  I made sure to leave plenty of blank space around the pictures so there is enough room for all of our guests to sign it.

I added a little surprise for my fiance on the last page.  He chose our first dance to be to a song by Lifehouse called Everything because he said the lyrics made him think of me (which I thought was one of the sweetest things he has ever said).  I put my favorite e-pic of us on the back page with a few lyrics from the song.  I thought that this would really make the book special and personalized just for us.  He really loved it!

I would recommend this option to anyone who is trying to look for a different option from the traditional guest book filled with signatures.

Met with our DJ

July 10, 2008

We met with our DJ last night to start going over the line up for the reception.  It’s crazy that it is coming up so soon!  He was great and very helpful.  He has a great knowledge of music which my FI really appreciated.

Our “homework” was to come up with songs for the following:

Mother/Son Dance

Putting on the Garter

Bouquet Toss

Last Dance

Any suggestions would be much appreciated!
